From 2015 to 2023, the two tournaments alternated between WTA Premier 5 and Premier status every year. |

Biography
Sharon Fichman (born December 3, 1990 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian inactive professional tennis player. She reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 77 on May 19, 2014 and a career-high WTA doubles ranking of No. 21 on January 17, 2022.
In 2002, Fichman won the under-12 title at the Eddie Herr International Championships and the under-12 title at the Orange Bowl. In 2004, at the age of 13, she was Canada's Under-18 Indoor & Outdoor National girls champ, and also won the doubles title with partner Mélanie Gloria. In 2005, she won the Grade A tournament Porto Alegre Junior Championships. Also in 2005, she won the gold medal in women's singles at the 17th Maccabiah Games in Israel, at the age of 14. She defeated 23-year-old Nicole Ptak of the United States in straight sets in the final. Fichman also won a bronze medal in the women's doubles, and wrapped up the event with silver medal in mixed doubles. She was also Canada's flag-bearer at the Games. In 2006, Fichman and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova dominated doubles at the Grand Slam Juniors by winning the Australian Open and French Open. At the 2006 junior US Open, Fichman quartered in singles and came close to capturing her third Grand Slam in doubles with a finalist showing. At the Rogers Cup in 2013, she reached the second round for the first time of her career in singles after defeating compatriot Stéphanie Dubois in her opening match. She also made it to the semifinals in doubles with fellow Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, after an upset over first seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci. They were eliminated by Jelena Janković and Katarina Srebotnik. In 2014 at the ASB Classic, she won her first WTA doubles title alongside Maria Sanchez with a victory over Lucie Hradecká and Michaëlla Krajicek in the final. Also in 2014, she won the biggest tournament of her career so far with a victory over Timea Bacsinszky at the ITF 100K in Cagnes-sur-Mer. Fichman was inactive from May 2016 to April 2018, but returned to tennis in doubles at the ITF 60K event in Indian Harbour Beach, reaching the quarterfinals with Jamie Loeb. She announced her official comeback in August 2018 and made her return at the Coupe Banque Nationale in September 2018, playing in doubles. In 2019, she won her second WTA doubles title, winning at the International tournament in Jūrmala, Latvia with partner Nina Stojanović. In 2020 at the Monterrey Open, Fichman captured her third WTA doubles title, this time partnering Kateryna Bondarenko. In 2021, she won the WTA 1000 doubles title in Rome, winning as alternates with Giuliana Olmos. She has been inactive since November 2021.
Fichman, who is Jewish, was born and raised in Toronto. She is a citizen of both Canada and Israel. Her parents, Julia and Bobby, emigrated from Romania to Israel in 1982, and then to Canada in 1989. Bobby was a semi-pro tennis player, and is now a nuclear engineer. Her mother is a computer engineer. Fichman started playing tennis at the age of 6 and won her first tournament at the same age. She attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute, a public high school, which she graduated from in July 2008. During her absence from the tour, from 2016 to 2018, she was a tennis analyst for Sportsnet, a sports television network in Canada. She also got her Coach 3 Certificate from Tennis Canada and began coaching for Tennis Canada on contract, travelling with and aiding in the development of some of the top Canadian junior players. As well, she ran the high-performance development at the Granite Club in Toronto.

Notes
- 1 The first WTA 1000 event of the year (then a WTA Premier 5) has switched back and forth between the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Qatar Ladies Open beginning in 2009. Dubai was classified as a WTA Premier 5 event from 2009–2011 before being succeeded by Doha for the 2012–2014 period. From 2015 to 2023, the two tournaments alternated between WTA Premier 5 and Premier status every year.
- NB The tournament in Cincinnati (then a WTA Premier 5) was played in New York City, the French Open was played in September and after the US Open, the Italian Open was also played in September and after the tournament in New York City/Cincinnati (then a WTA Premier 5), and the 2020 Olympic Games were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
- NB The WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells was played in October and after the tournament in Cincinnati due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
