Marjorie Blackwood
Biography
Marjorie Blackwood (born May 1, 1957 in Karachi, Pakistan) is a Canadian former professional tennis player. She reached the quarterfinals in doubles at Wimbledon with Susan Leo in 1981 and 1982, and at the French Open with Pam Whytcross in 1980. Blackwood won 9 WTA doubles and as also runner-up in four more events. She was coach and captain of the Canada Fed Cup team in 1983. She was Tennis Canada's 1982 female player of the year. She retired in 1994. Blackwood was inducted into the Canadian Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998.
Born to a Canadian government officer in Karachi, she grew up in Detroit and Ottawa and attended the University of Texas. After her retirement, she and her husband Peter Schelling were Tennis Directors at Whistler Tennis Club. They continue to coach in the Gulf Islands where they currently live.
