Biography
Marina Stakusic (born November 27, 2004 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian professional tennis player. She reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 379 on November 14, 2022 and a career-high WTA doubles ranking of No. 510 on November 14, 2022.
In 2018, Stakusic won her first ITF singles title on the junior circuit at the G5 in Calgary. The same year, she won her first junior ITF doubles title at the G5 in Montego Bay. In 2019, she captured two junior ITF doubles titles respectively at the G4 in Edmonton and at the G2 in Montréal. In 2021 on the ITF junior circuit, she won the G2 in Santo Domingo in singles and the GB1 in Nicholasville in doubles. Also in 2021, she played her first junior Grand Slam at the US Open, losing in the qualifying second round in singles and in the first round in doubles. In 2022, Stakusic won her first professional doubles title at the ITF 25K in Saskatoon with compatriot Kayla Cross. Also in 2022, Stakusic was awarded a wildcard in the qualifying draw of the National Bank Open defeating world No. 78 Wang Xinyu in the first round before losing to world No. 73 Tereza Martincová in three sets in the last round. The same year, she qualified for her first WTA singles main draw at the 250 in Granby where she reached the second round. She also lost in the first round in doubles.
Stakusic started playing tennis at age 5 in Toronto. She is one of three siblings and of Serbian descent. Her older brother Marko also plays tennis.
